Location: former commercial archive, 4th floor, Nøstegaten 52, Bergen.
The vantage point for this exhibition was the event of B-open, an event
aiming to open up the local art scene for the audience, curators, gallerists and
the media. Flaggfabrikken decided to shed light on the fact that contemporary
art practice reaches beyond the local context and is not "the lonely artist in
their studio" as the emphasis on open studio visits during B-open implied. We
initiated a three part exhibition focusing on the diversity of artistic practice
and the existence of international and national networks instrumental in
continually developing the local art practice.
One part was a result of the joint effort of Flaggfabrikken's members to use
their international networks to create a library of art publications, artist
publications, exhibition catalogues, art magazines, art fanzines etc. This
library was displayed in a site specific installation commissioned from local
artist Ellen Jakobsson, whose work has the character of making monumental
installations with everyday furniture/objects mixed with custom made wooden
constructions. This piece was shaped as an interior/exterior communicating
thoughts around the aim of the exhibition to highlight the complexity and
interaction in the art world; local/non-local, inside/outside,
tradition/experimental. The physicality of this installation allowed the
audience both to comfortably browse the library and spend time thoroughly
reading in their preferred publications.
A selection of videos was displayed in a circle, where the audience individually
could sit down and watch the programme.

These videos were all able to communicate seven different approaches to art
practice to further highlight the political/financial/spatial considerations
surrounding artistic practice.
At the opening Morten Torgersrud was invited to launch his artist publication
Murmanskrovaniemikirkenes, b/w photographs of the three northernmost towns of
Russia (Murmansk), Finland (Rovaniemi) and Norway (Kirkenes) mixed without
geographical reference to erase the borders between them. This launch was
accompanied by sound artist/musician Einar Sneve Martinussen with an ambient
concert consisting of sound recordings from these three locations.

Vi har målrettet jobbet med å få inn kataloger, bøker og magasiner fra et så vidt spekter av kunstverdenen som mulig, og har i løpet av de siste månedene fått i overkant av 300 bidrag fra over 70 bidragsytere fra Kirkenes til Tokyo. Dette biblioteket er tilgjengelig for publikum i
Additional Information i en ramme laget som en stedsspesifikk installasjon av kunstneren Ellen Jakobsson. Rammen er formet som et interiør med sitteplasser og et eksteriør med hengekøyer som publikum kan sette seg ned i for å fordype seg i andre kunstneriske strategier enn de finner i Bergen. Ellen Jakobssons installasjon problematiserer B-open på en spissfindig måte ved å skape en ”inne/ute”-situasjon. I tillegg til dette biblioteket vises det flere videoer på seks forskjellige monitorer. Blant videoene finnes Famous Quotes from Art History av Michael Smith, en humoristisk vridning på sitater, og Public Discourse av Quenell Jones som viser et knippe kunstnere som forholder seg til det offentlige rommet i New York når de skaper og viser sin kunst. Med disse videoene ønsker vi å rette søkelyset mot de omkringliggende hensyn som en kunstner må ta i sitt daglige arbeid, og på denne måten informere et kunstinteressert publikum.Under åpningen av Additional Information vil boken Murmanskrovaniemikirkenes av Morten Torgersrud lanseres med video, lyden til lanseringen og åpningen lages av Einar Sneve Martinussen.

Flaggfabrikken - senter for fotografi og billedkunst startet i 2003 og dette er deres andre offentlige prosjekt. Det første var Trasé-kunst på busser i Bergen tidligere i år. Vi er elleve billedkunstnere som arbeider med fotografi og video og har også åpne atelierer under B-open i våre lokaler i Møllendalsveien 17. Utstillingen er støttet av: Norsk kulturråd og UKS.
