Ausblick privat - A sightseeing project. Text by Jan Dvořak published in the exhibition catalogue.

An international art festival such as the Artgenda unites places that otherwise exist separate from one another, superimposes the cultural, local and individual proposals of the guests onto the conventionalized perception of the host city. The project Ausblick privat (private perspective) attempts to translate these differences into sound in the sense of an acoustical group exhibition.

Ausblick privat is somewhat like a study of the "own" and the "foreign", a location's sound and its remix. Ausblick privat strives to capture the individual impression and make it accessible, produces private moments in a public setting. Based on a series of Hamburg postcards, composition commissions were given to eight international artists and musicians. What does the view of the St. Michaelis Cathedral sound like? Or the panorama of the harbour's landing piers? The resulting texts and compositions are presented in eight wooden "listening chairs" which were specially constructed for the project. They are located throughout Hamburg's inner city and harbour area, accompanied by a view of the individual postcard motives.

The listening catalogue cannot and does not strive to document the entire sound installation, but rather collects the presented sound pieces within the context of their points of departure, the postcards.
