From the curatorial statement

by Rakett (Åse Løvgren and Karolin Tampere)

This is an invitation for contributing material to a project intended for a group show in Projekt 0047, Berlin, Germany.
The show is scheduled to open at 26th of November, 2005.

Rakett has been invited as one of the three curators to participate with a project in Projekt 0047during a period of three weeks.

We invite you to:
Remember or imagine a bouquet of flowers. One that you have received or one that you have given. It may also be one that you would like to give, an imaginary one. Write down the story of why it was/is/will be important to you and give us a description of the bouquet so that we can re-construct it. The submitted description can be an image, a drawing, photo or written.

Your story about the bouquet will also be included in the exhibtion together with the actual reconstructed bouquet of yours, and should not be longer than one A4-page. Unfortunately we don't have an unlimited access to all of the flowers in the world, so please take the season into consideration. The exhibition will last ten days leaving time for the flowers to blossom and wither.

Your material will be included in the show both as reproduction and original work. We will furthermore make an effort to reproduce the selected bouquets.

Flowers and strawberries - the origin of the idea of the combination bouquet

There is no surprise in flowers on a red-letter day. Those flowers don’t count in a way. It is the flowers you don’t expect to receive that counts. I have never gotten flowers, to the best of my recollection.

In between the surprise bouquet and the expected bouquet there is what I like to call ‘the combination bouquet’, which I have received. By that I don’t mean different flowers in one bunch, but the unexpected bouquet received on a special day. Unfortunately I can’t remember my first and only combination bouquet.

July the 3rd 1976 my mother was supposed to visit some friends, who had just moved into a new house, to pick strawberries in their garden. Instead of picking strawberries she gave birth to me. The first flower I got was a garden rose from that very same garden. This is the first combination bouquet. Flowers given on a red-letter day, but which comes a surprise to the recipient.
