Same time last year
The series Same time last year is like a collection of still images from a film. Pieces of a quiet story where a leather clad man with a motor bike a beautiful spring day goes for a ride in a forest where the ground is covered in white anemones. What he is doing is up the viewer to contemplate. The title is as open as the images to interpretation. The images has a sad tint. Maybe he has returned to remember something that happened a year ago, right here? But what was that? The artist wants the viewer to conjure up small fictitious stories, and Same time last year invites us to do so with it's open endedness. Anne Szefer Karlsen sees them all as correct, even if the interpretations are fictitious the images are factual, because they portray something that actually has taken place.

Billedserien På samme tid i fjor er som en rekke stillbilder fra en film.
Biter av en lavmælt historie hvor en lærkledd mann med motorsykkel en vakker
vårdag kjører en tur i et glissent løvtrelandskap med skogbunn dekket med
hvitveis. Hva han gjør der er opp til den enkelte tilskuer å kontemplere over.
Tittelen er like åpen som bildene for tolkninger. Hele serien har noe vemodig
over seg. Kan han ha vendt tilbake for å minnes noe som skjedde for et år siden,
på samme sted? Og hva skulle dette ha vært? Kunstneren er opptatt av å fremmane
små fiktive historier i tilskueren, og På samme tid i fjor innbyr
nettopp til en rekke fortolkningsmuligheter med sin åpenhet. Slik Anne Szefer
Karlsen ser det er de alle sanne, selv om tolkningen er fiktiv, for
fotografiene har jo en gang blitt tatt, de avbilder noe som har skjedd.
