Will I never be able to leave (Vilnius International Airport), 2004. Colour photography. 10x15 cm, postcard for the exhibition Heimweg.

TEXT FROM culturalaffairs:

Heimweg/The Way Home.

People all over the world have been reflecting on the way home for thousands of years. On the one side, this refers literally to the daily routine of “going home”. On the other side, “the way home” also has a very philosophical and spiritual meaning for us. We want to make the diversity of the way home subject of discussion and perceptible. We invited 200 artists from all over the world, whom we hold in high esteem for their former work and with whom we have cooperated on previous projects. The artists are to share their ideas regarding “the way home” with us. The artists are basically visual artists, writers and architects, of whom some are well-known to the public and some are young less known artists.

The artists contributed either a postcard in a usual format or a text. The idea is that greetings, dreams, thoughts, questions and/or feelings, which arise from or about the way home, are conveyed and then sent as a postcard. The postcard can be either bought or designed individually and can be designed freely on one side or on both. The text too, can be individual or an excerpt. The artist decides which of the sides is to be exhibited, although both sides can be illustrated. Altogether we received 203 totally different postcards from 115 artists: cards, that were sent in the context of an own artistic event, objects, collages, drawings, installations and whole series that deal with the subject “The way home”/"Heimweg".

The book Heimweg is published by the Publishing House of Modern Arts Nuremberg (Verlag für moderne Kunst Nürnberg) and comprises all of the submitted postcards and texts. The content of the book is determined by the topic, the submitted postcards and the texts. In a very special way, the diversity and ideas of the way home are taken up. Renowned writers, philosophers and persons engaged in the cultural sector made contributions in form of texts. We attached great importance to a high quality of the depiction of the works of art. The book will be offered during the exhibitions and the auction, by the Verlag für moderne Kunst Nürnberg and by culturalaffairs (Price 34,- Euros, order via Email: info@culturalfaffairs.de or Fax 0049 (0)89-21 66 83 77).
